GMTK Game Jam 2024

This project was done for the Game Maker's Toolkit 4-day game jam.

I contributed the game concept and design, and created the user interface mockups. The 3D background renders and models were provided by the team's artist.

Wireframes / Sketch Concepts

The jam's theme was "Built to Scale." Our team settled on the following game idea: a wave-based shooter where you swap between controlling a giant turret and a small pilot.

I created early sketch concepts to solidify the idea, including the main turret gameplay and the transition to pilot gameplay.

Turret gameplay. Enemies approach the rotating turret. The player must shoot them down while managing their health and energy.

An early idea was a third level of scale, where the game would zoom out to a world map. Multiple turrets would be under attack simultaneously and you'd have to swap between them.

Transition to pilot gameplay.

Pilot gameplay. The pilot can exit, managing and repairing the turret from an outside platform.

These were concepts for various aspects of the game.

I attempted to alleviate some gameplay issues with the platform where pilot gameplay took place.
